I’m Not Comfortable in Front of the Camera: What Do I Do?

It’s not uncommon that we hear brides and grooms tell us, “But we’re not models? How can we possibly look as beautiful as the ones in your portfolio?”

Save for one bride, we’ve never had professional models as clients! In other words, you don’t have to be a pro at posing for you to have beautiful photographs on your wedding day. That’s what getting a professional photographer is for – we will give you great photographs, part of which is making sure you are as comfortable in front of the camera as possible.

If you’re not comfortable in front of the camera, there are a few things you can do to make the experience easier. Here are a few tips from our team:

Before the shoot

Practice in front of a mirror.

Did you ever pose in front of the mirror when you were a kid, trying out different expressions and poses? No? Just us?

Anyway, try doing this. This will help you get comfortable with how you look and how to pose. Practice your smize, your big smiles, and your smile-without-the-teeth.

Talk to your photographer.

Yes, talk with us! Let us know what makes you feel comfortable, and we can help guide you through the shoot. Don’t be afraid to ask us for help.

On the day of the shoot

Try to relax and take some deep breaths.

Remember that we, your photography team, are there to help you look your best, and will give you direction that will make you look your most gorgeous throughout the shoot. Just trust us, let go, and feel your best. You’ll look your best if you feel your best!

Stay positive and think about all the good reasons you’re getting photographed.

This can help take your mind off of the camera and make you feel more relaxed. If you get too caught up on all the wrong things, like “What if I look ugly? Is my makeup caking yet? I should’ve dieted a long time ago,” you will only end up stressing out, and trust us, the last thing you want to look in your photos is STRESSED.

Finally, if you’re still feeling anxious, try to focus on your surroundings.

Look at the beautiful flowers or the interesting architecture in the background. This can help take your mind off of the shoot and make you feel more at ease.

It’s important to be comfortable with your photographer, whether it’s for a prenup shoot or on your wedding day. Make sure you go with one where you feel most taken care of. No matter what, don’t forget to have fun! The best photos always come from when you’re having a great time. Just focus on your fiance, on your love for each other, and on this big decision you made together.

TESTIMONIALS

The moment we got engaged, Bryan and I knew that we wanted our photos to be bright, light and of course, timeless! Foreveryday was already on top of the list of the major suppliers we needed to book. The night we met them, my heart was so happy knowing that we were in good hands! They didn’t only help us with our photos but also extended their help in choosing other suppliers. Such generous people!

I had the opportunity to work with Foreveryday team twice! Yes, that’s right, twice! They are the photographer of our dreams and we still wonder if their cameras were touched by fairy dust as their pictures were just magical!

- Lara & Wes

We knew you were the one for us the moment we stumbled upon your IG profile! Thank you for capturing our silliest and happiest moments during our wedding. Kudos for turning our awkward poses to model-esque images!
